Question How to waterproof fabric???

Hello All,
I'm looking for a way to make some fabric waterproof for a shower curtain.I know they sell stuff out there to waterproof tents, etc.I tried that stuff and it's so complicated to use and really stinks.I was told you can buy the very thin vinyl stuff that you use to protect your table cloths, etc and permanently iron it onto your fabric.Has anyone tried this? If not any other suggestions??(I don't want to use a shower curtain liner because they get so gross and are a pain to keep clean).Thanks.

I've never tried the Iron On film.
I have read you can take Clear Silicone Chaulk and spread it on fabric thinly and let dry. Never tried it myself.
