This is just way too cool, you can even color the rocks!
http://www.makestuff.com/scented_rocks.html Place rocks in a bowl or dish to scent a room. A nice alternative to potpourri! 1/2 cup plain flour 1/2 cup salt 1/4 teaspoon essential oil (your favorite scent) 2/3 cups boiling water Food coloring, if desired In bowl, mix dry ingredients well. Add essential oil, and boiling water to dry ingred. (Scent will be strong, but will fade slightly when dry.) For colored stones, blend in food coloring, one drop at a time until desired shade is reached. Blend ingredients, and form balls. Allow stones to dry.

I have been making these for a couple of years now. These are dull when they dry, but you can shine them up with a little polishing oil and a soft cloth. Also when you put in the food coloring to color them don't completely mix it, let it have streaks of the color in it. You'll understand when you start mixing in the color what I am talking about.
I sell alot of these at craft shows. What I do is take color fine mesh cloth in different colors (I match the stone color) and make a little sachet out of them and tie it shut with a ribbon. A little hint that alot of people don't know is that whenever your potpourri or scented items like these rocks start to loose their smell place them in a zip lock bag and seal, leave for a couple of weeks and when you open up the bags your scent will be refreshed. If the smell is to far gone you can always add a little potpourri oil to them. Just thought I'd give you a few little tips. If anyone is interested I also have a recipe to make beads from rose petals. It takes some time to do, but they are so unique when you get them done. |

Windspirit;
I will be happy to post the information on the rose beads, but give me until tomorrow, I'll have to look it up, it's on one of about 12 different craft disks that I've made.(I really need to organize them a little better). However will be happy to do so. |

Pastelli Rocks
Just thought I would also put the recipe I have in here, the ingredients are slightly different.
Pastilles SCENTED STONES 1/2 cup flour (do not use self-rising flour) 1/4 teaspoon powdered alum 2/3 cup boiling water 1/4 cup salt 1 tablespoon essential oil 1 glass or ceramic bowl 1. In glass or ceramic bowl thoroughly mix all dry ingredients 2. Add essential oil and boiling water to dry ingredients. Scent will be strong, but will fade slightly when pastilles dry. 3. For colored dough, blend in food coloring one drop at a time until desired shade is achieved. 4. Blend ingredients to form a ball. 5. Working with a small amount at a time (approx.1/8 teaspoon) roll dough between palms of hands to form small balls (cover unused dough to keep moist) 6. Allow pastilles to dry. It is very important that you use the alum. This is what helps take out the moisture to allow them to dry better Hopes this helps. ![]() |

I just wanted to let you know that I didn't mean to jump in on your recipe and change it, but I figured who ever wrote down your recipe just ommited the alum by mistake. Everything else seemed to be the same. I just didn't want you or anyone else making them and not figure out what happened. It's always nice to help each other out when possible. Take care, no hard feelings I hope. God Bless ![]() |
