how do you connect you outdoor x mas lights?

For many years I have pondered this question. Is there an easier way to connect outdoor christmas lights? our method has always been to use extension cords and make it so that the connection ends up on the last window of the house, make a whole in the spring, bring it through and connect it to our nearest elctrical outlet indoor. By seeing many other homes that have a variety of lights and decorations i ponder how they connect it all? so are there any gadgets you use to conect your lights without having to use holes in your window?

We have an outside electrical outlet, so I just start on one end of the house and work my way to the other. Once I get to the end of the house I use an extension cord and plug it in outside by the garage.

my porch light has an outlet - so we use the porch lite switch to turn outdoor lights on and off - this is how every one I know does outdoor house lights.
