Re: tie dying hair

sorry - never heard of it - is this for a costume or something? tie dye is a process of tying up fabric and dying to make designs. Since hair would not soak up dye, I am not sure this process would work on hair. if for a costume - maybe try the spray on hair color with a stencil cut to look like tie dye

update: found this http://gk12.asu.edu/curriculum/physi...dye/tiedye.pdf
page 6 says the fiber reactive dyes would color hair - but since it is probably permanent I would not want to experiment with my own hair..LOL

Re: tie dying hair

I thought you could temporarily dye your hair with jello. Its takes a little time to wash out with shampoo. The girls in the cosmotology program experimented with the jello.

But can you tie dye hair with Jello? Lets say you put your long hair in pigtails, and then rubber band the tail tightly in 2 other places. So dip the end of the braid in blue up to the first band, and the middle in green, and next in yellow. would you just paint it on the remaining hair?

Will the dye soak thru the bundle of hair or just coat the outside layer? Would it look like tie dye when unbanded? Would the various colors show on most hair color - perhaps on whit or light blonde, but what about brown or black?

Sorry, but I cannot help but think you would not be able to get a true tie dye look, and it would just be ugly layers, but then I think tie dyed hair would be pretty ugly too. LOL

Does Jello dye or just tint? LOL, they use koolaid for tshirt tie dye. I think they heat set it to keep it from washing out. LOL, so do not use hair dryer or curling iron with the jello...

And again, I would just buy the cheap spray on color - much less trouble
