I need ideas for old barn windows!
My parents had an old barn tore down that my great grandfather built and I asked them to save the windows for me. They also saved some of the wood for making birdhouses. I need some ideas. I have thought of painting them but I would like to know if anyone has any ideas or knows of any websites that would have any info. I have tryed on the Better Homes and Gardens website but I did a search and came up with nothing.
Thanks!!

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
I took an old Barn window and made a frame around it and a shelf on the bottom, then I took the glass out and put in mirrors, painted it to match the room. isn't too hard to do

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
This is kind of cute
Or how about one of those free standing room dividers. You could hindge them all together and put photo's behind the window panes.
If you have a whole bunch of them, you might could even build you a green house in the back yard.

Maybe you could even use them as doors for a book shelve.
Maybe build a display case.

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
Try painting something on the glass directly from the backside, like shabby roses or something. I have seen these types of barn windows painted, going for up to $800. no kidding. Plus glass is forgiving, if you don't like what you've painted, then just scrape it off and start over.

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
Thanks for all the great ideas! I think I'm going to try taking the glass out and put mirrors in them for one. As for the others I have no idea yet. I knew you could do different things but I didn't think there was that many ideas out there. I don't know even know how many windows there are. The barn was pretty small.

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
Thanks Craftyree! I forgot about this one and I even watched this one that they had. I emailed my family all these great ideas so we can make it a family project.

I bought one at a craft show ($40.00) old barn window that is pretty big, hand painted on the glass, an American flag in Americanna type colors..really pretty. It's hanging in my living room.

Re: Need ideas for old barn windows!
Several years ago we had replacement windows put in our old home that my great grandparents built. My husband took one of the windows to a local stained glass artist along with a picture of our house. He made a stained glass picture out of the window and my husband gave it to me for Christmas. Priceless.
