Decorating Flop-Flops - Need more ideas

Floral Flip-Flops
From "DIY Crafts"

http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cl_sho...274125,00.html

Silk flowers
Wire cutters
Glue gun
Flip-flops

Clip a flower off its stem. Because the stem is no longer holding it together, now all the different layers of the flower will need to be glued together.

Gently pull the first layer apart from the second layer.

Stick the end of the glue gun into the space you've just made and squeeze a small amount of glue inside.

Press the flower back together (figure A).

Repeat this process for all the other layers.

Put an ample amount of glue on the back of the flower and press it firmly onto the flip-flop thong.

Repeat this process for the other flip-flop.

Beaded Flip-Flops[i]

Flip-flops
Large beads
Nylon or knitting thread
Tapestry needle

Thread needle with a good length of thread and tie at one end with a double knot

Push the needle up through the end of one of the flip-flop straps.

Load all the beads for the strap onto the thread. Push the needle back down through the strap. Pull all the way through, taking up the slack.

Tie a tight double knot in thread.

Repeat this process for the other straps.

These look lovely but I need something a little more kid-friendly ...

[b]Flip Flops[b]
Lion Brand® Fun Fur

TIP : Wrap tightly so as not to leave any spaces for the yarn to shift around.

FLIP-FLOPS

With one strand, wrap the Fun Fur around the outside end of the strap of the flip-flop (close to the heel where the strap starts) and tie a knot. NOTE: It is prudent to tie the knot at least three times to keep it from slipping. You may additionally use hot melt glue to secure the yarn, but don't put the glue where it will rub on your feet and be uncomfortable.

Wrap the yarn around and around the strap, pulling it back towards the beginning to make it dense and furry. Continue to the end of the strap.

When you reach the end of the strap, tie another knot to secure the Fun Fur. NOTE: It is prudent to tie the knot at least three times to make sure that it will hold. Secure the knot with a dab of hot melt glue if you wish.

Cut the yarn.

For the second flip flop, make sure to start the yarn on the outside end of the other flip flop in the same color that you started the first so your flip-flops match. Repeat steps 1 through 4 to complete the second flip flop.

Optional Finish your flip-flops by gluing a large button, rhinestone, or beads to the toe.

Designer Flip-flops [

Here's a fun and quick project that will have your kids stepping out in summer's latest foot fashions.

MATERIALS:
Cloth ribbon, fringe, or similar trim
Scissors
Flip-flops with foam soles and foam or fabric straps
Low-temperature glue gun

Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Choose a trim and cut a length to fit around the outer wall of each sole with a 1/2-inch overlap. Cut separate pieces of trim for the left and right sides of the foot strap, as well (again, the pieces should overlap 1/2 inch where the ends meet in the center).

2. To attach the trim to the sole, evenly apply a line of hot glue to a 2-inch section of the foam, using the low-temperature glue gun tip to quickly spread it to a width that's slightly narrower than the ribbon. Firmly press the end of the trim onto the glued portion so that it sticks well, then smooth it toward the unglued section. Continue applying glue and attaching the trim in 2-inch increments until you've fully circled the sole.

3. Use the same method to attach the 2 pieces of strap trim. Allow the glue to dry for at least an hour before your child takes her newly decorated footwear for a walk.

Variations:
Matching Beach Hat: For a matching summer cap, you can attach trim using a nontoxic fabric glue (we recommend Delta's Stitchless washable fabric glue).

Fluffy Flip-Flops

These adorable slippers make it a cinch to slip into something cute and comfortable.

MATERIALS:
Flip-flops
Fabric
Pinking shears

Time needed: About 1 Hour

1. Select a fabric and use pinking shears to cut a series of 1- by 6-inch strips (the number of strips you'll need depends upon the size of your child's feet; the ones we made required 28 strips).

2. Using single knots, tie the strips around the flip-flop straps, pushing the knots close together as you go.

3. Keep adding pieces until your new slippers are sufficiently soft and swanky!

Zipped-up Flip-flops

Footwear trends may come and go, but the flip-flop has long reigned as the unofficial shoe of summer. Your kids can stand out in the beach crowd with the following decorating ideas to make their flips truly hip.

MATERIALS:
Flip-flops
Assortment of small plastic toys
Assortment of different colors of embroidery thread
Googly eyes
Glue
Beads or jingle bells
Permanent markers

Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Attach small plastic toys, such as goldfish, with a hot glue gun.

2. Wrap the straps with different colors of embroidery thread.

3. Make a smiley face by gluing pairs of googly eyes onto the thongs, then painting your toenails red.

4. Tie on beads or jingle bells with short strands of embroidery thread.

5. Use permanent markers to draw on patterns or write your name

Aloha Flip Flops
You'll practically feel the tropical island breezes when you wear these adorable Aloha flip flops.

Crafting Time: 30 minutes
Skill Level: 1 being the easiest

Foam Flip Flops
Foam Sticker Bucket, Lei
Pony Beads (8)
Natural Raffia
Green Raffia
Spray Glitter
Low Temp Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Scissors
Cost of each project will vary depending on materials used.

Due to the seasonal nature of some merchandise, actual availability of some products pictured may vary.

Spray your choice of foam flowers with spray glitter. Let dry.

Tie two bows each from natural and green raffia.

Cut two long pieces of natural raffia. Place a green bow on top of a natural bow and use one of the natural raffia pieces to tie them to a flip flop as shown. Repeat for the other flip flop.

For each flip flop, thread the glittered foam flowers and pony beads onto the ends of the natural raffia (used to tie bows to flip flops) and knot the ends to hold everything snugly in place.

Clip all bow loops.

I have just the thing for you Jolie. Here while back, i was watching the Carol Duvall show. At the end of each show, she has what she calls the Shoebox. It holds different crafts and sometimes an actual item that a viewer has sent in. On this particular day, she showed a pair of flip flops that a viewer had attached a pom pom to. She also showed a pair that the viewer had done a crochet around the thongs. Both were really cute.

And Jolie, if you have a Dollar Tree in your area, you can get both the flip flops and the fun fur there.
