I think this looks great, but I think I would be worried about sharp edges...
Stars and Stripes Wreath
* 28 Aluminum Can bottoms
* 2 Aluminum sheets
* Scissors
* Ice Pick
* Floral wire
* Paper fastener
* Permanent Marker (red and blue)
* Wooden Skewer
* Computer mouse pad
* Ruler
* Hole Punch
* Metal glue
* Pull-tab
Using the ice pick and scissors, remove the top from 28 aluminum soda cans. Trim the jagged edge of the can. Cut down the side and along the paint line creating 28 aluminum bottoms and 28 aluminum sheets.
Wreath
Color both sides of the edge of eighteen can bottoms, 9 blue and 9 red. Trim the edge of the 28 can bottoms around and around 1/8" wide to create 28 aluminum buttons and 28-coiled tinsel strips approximately 20" long. Loop the ends of 24 tinsel strips in pairs creating 12 circles. Stack the tinsel circles one on top of the other. Use the four remaining tinsel coils to secure the circles together.
Stars
Place one aluminum sheet on the mouse pad. Using the wooden skewer and an aluminum button, draw 8 circles. Cut out the circles. Using the circular pattern above, emboss the green valley lines from the center to the edge onto the aluminum circles. Turn the circle over and emboss every other line onto the aluminum circle. Cut the valley lines ¼" from the edge. Poke two holes where indicated on the pattern. Fold the aluminum from the peak to the valley creating the 5 points of the star. Pinch and shape each star.
Bow
Using a second aluminum sheet, measure lengthwise every 5/8" marking 13 sections. Place the rule on each line and score with the ice pick. Bend and break the aluminum sheet in to thirteen 5/8" x 4" strips. Color five strips blue, five strips red and keep three strips silver. Punch a hole in both ends of 13 strips. Place a paper fastener through the hole in one end of each strip in this manner: two silver, four blue, four red, one blue, one red and one silver with the shiny side of the strip touching the head of the fastener. Fan the strip out in this manner: red to the left, red to the right, blue to the left, blue to the right, silver to the left, silver to the right, blue to the left, blue to the right, red to the left, red to the right and the remaining three towards the bottom. Roll the two center silver strips back and place them on the paper fastener. Roll the four blue strips back and place them on the paper fastener. Roll the four red strips back and place them on the paper fastener. Close the fastener to secure the strips. Clip the ends of the three remaining strips and add small dab of glue to hold in place. Glue one star on the front of the bow.
Assemble
Slip floral wire between the strips and fasten the bow to the wreaths. Thread floral wire through the holes in the seven stars and fasten them to the wreath. Poke two holes in a pull-tab and wire it to the back of the wreaths.Copyright©
