Question for Fellow Crafters
I am looking for ceramic tiles. I went to a couple of home improvement places, but the smallest I could find was about 4 inches square, and the ones I need are 2 and a half inches square. Anyone know where I can find them? Do craft stores sell them, maybe?
Here's my idea. The other day, I bought several 2004 calenders out of a clearance bin for 49 cents each. This was a great find, because I cut out the pictures and put them in a file so I have them for future decoupage projects. And then it dawned on me that the pictures on the back of the calendar are great, also, just miniature. These even had sayings on each one.
Wouldn't they make cool refrigerator magnets if I decoupaged them on ceramic tiles then affixed a heavy magnet to the back? Sounded like a great idea, but now I can't find the right size tiles.
So if you know where I can get just plain white ceramic tiles, 2 and a half inches square, please let me know.
TIA

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
Well, I can't tell you of any place where you can buy them, but how about buying big white tiles and then cut them so you will get 4 pieces out of one big tile? You can always use paint to touch up the edges
I would think though, that home improvement stores should have some since the kitchen back splashes are made out of those, aren't they?

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
If I can't find the tiles already pre-cut, I may have to get them cut. That's what I thought, too, about the tiles being smaller for walls, but I didn't seem to find them...yet. I'll keep looking. Thanks!
I just hate it when I get a good idea, and I want to run with it, then find out I can't get the supplies I need for it. LOL

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
I remember seeing some at Home Depot a while back. They were sold in sheets of about 12 or so that had the spacers already attached but could easily cut off. Also try the websites for some of the bigger stores (ie. Home Depot and Lowe's) as you can order online and have them shipped to you. Good luck, sounds like a great idea.

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
I did a table top mosiac a while back, I had a hard time finding 2 1/4 inch tiles, then was told by a lowes employee I should try pool supply/ building places, or call tile shops and as if they sell/supply pool tiles. I found a great place near me, and they often will comp me samples in that size when I'm making a purchase and an old line/color was closed out. I'd offer to get some for you, but I think they'd be expensive to mail? I'm not sure, but they seem pretty heavy. Good luck, hope you find them.

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
Why not try to glue them to an acryllic instead of ceramic? Much lighter and easier to work with and when they fall of the fridge (and they will) they won't break?
Or maybe on to a magnetic strip, I use old magnets sheets that business cards where on and they work great.
Good luck with it, just think of allternative ideas, if you can't find what you are looking for!

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
Thanks for the suggestions. I had sort of given up on ceramic tile. I too, was worried about the possibility of breakage. Headed to Michael's this weekend to explore other options.

Re: Question for Fellow Crafters
You could also try using the see thru round colored stones that are flat onthe back. I have seen small pictures cut to fit these and glued on then magnetic strips applied for frig magnets
