Materials Needed:
Silk rose petals
1 lb clear glycerin soap base
Rose fragrance oil
Waxed paper
Kitchen knife
Microwave-safe glass container
Slotted spoon
Cake cooling rack
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut enough soap to cover your petals into small cubes and melt it in the microwave according to the manufacture’s instructions. (Note: Leftover soap can be molded or saved to re-melt for another project).
2. Add a few drops of fragrance oil to the melted soap until it reaches the desired strength. Place a piece of waxed paper upon which to spread the petals in a single layer on your work surface. The piece of wax paper should be large enough that you have room to flip the petals as they dry, to keep them from sticking to the paper.
3. Drop a handful of rose petals into the melted soap base. Stir them gently until they are coated, and remove each petal individually with a slotted spoon, allowing the excess soap base to drain into the container.
4. Quickly turn the petals over 4 or 5 times, or until hardened, to avoid marks and soap puddles on your petals. (Note: You may only want to work with 3 or 4 petals at a time as the soap dries quickly). Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have coated all of the petals. Re-melt soap as needed.
Storage and Use:
When the petals have cooled, place them in a decorative container, a lid will help prolong the fragrance.
