Craft consignment stores????

I was wondering if anyone sells their crafts in consignment stores and is it worth it. We have a store here that has no booth fees but takes 35% of selling price of each item. Is this a normal percentage? I am looking for some info before I try it.

TIA

Dawn

Re: Craft consignment stores????

I pay a $90.00 monthly rent for a 6x8 space and they charge me a 7% commission on my sales. Does the place you are thinking about let people sell storebought items? I have found that people prefer to buy the cheaper manufactured items than my higher priced handmade items. So far it has not been worth it for me and I plan to pull out as soon as my contract is up at the end of July. I also had $200.00 dollars worth of stuff stolen and they gave me a credit of half of my cost, which they then took 7% out of for themselves. Good luck with whatever you chose to do.

I don't think it's worth it. I sold some of my stuff at a consignment shop, until it went under in January. The consignment shops are to high and they want everything for themselves. DON'T DO IT!!!!

Re: Craft consignment stores????

Kearla, at this store that I am looking into does sell manufactured stuff just to fill the shelves. They just opened this store and are still looking for crafters. They have a chain of stores around here, I believe they have around 5 stores. I was told that they keep the jewelry close to the registry, so it dosn't get stolen and the other items are too large to steal. The store is in the mall, so they have alot of walkins. $90 rent is horrible. thats why I was looking at this place, If i don't sell anything,I don't lose an y money
