I had the same trouble. But here's my secret. Don't be afraid of Yard Sales, Salvation Army, or Clothing Centers. They have baby bedding for really inexpensive and sometimes they're new and better than the ones in the stores that are being sold for alot of money.
I would get baby clothes and anything else I could find there too. Saves a lot of money plus you will have more clothes for baby to wear. And if they get stains on it you don't need to worry because they didn't cost that much to begin with.
And if you are a bit iffy about second hand stuff just think about these things:
- half the time they're new or barely used especially infant clothing because they grow out them so quickly.
- once they're washed they're clean. If you are really concerned just throw some antibacterial dish soap in the wash to make sure there are no germs. But the dryer would kill the germs anyhow.
- with the money you save you can buy other things for your baby like baby wash, wash cloths, DIAPERS (hint - disposables are very expensive and if you aren't worried about changing a reusable and washing them (walmart has diaper hampers that you can line with a plastic bag and then just throw the diapers in the wash with some clorox bleach and detergent), bottles, etc.
- Also, Here's a link to a recipe for my own homemade heavy duty detergent and it is safe enough for baby clothing. A lot less expensive than using commercial brands.

It is powder but you can just add water to it and mix and put in used laundry bottles if you like liquid detergent better.
