Old CD's

We have a ton of these. What is a good idea to do with these. I have a 5 year old little girl and would like some stuff that she could do also. Thanks

Thank You!! We made a bowl out of one last night. We heated it in a toaster oven over a metal butter warmer. It looks realy neat. Also thought about doing some like that and making coasters so that the liquid puddles in the bottom of the coaster what doesnt get soaked into the cork.

here are a couple of ideas I found on the internet:

CD Clock:

Paint the CD to match any room. This makes a great gift for teens, kids, parents, and grandparents. Parental supervision is recommended.

This project is rated_EASY to do.

What You Need
_

Old CD or internet CD (ask your parents first!)
"Painters" paint markers
Clock works
Metal washer (hardware stores carry these individually)
_
How To Make It
_

Paint the CD with paint markers in any design you want. Let dry.
Write the numbers around the edge of the CD. Make sure you space them evenly. (Ask a parent for help on this)
Assemble the clock works onto the CD. You will need to get a bigger washer than what is included in most clock works and place this on the top of the CD to keep the clock together.
Give as a present or keep for yourself.

CD Disco Ball:
You can make your own cool disco ball using old your CDs.
The Steps: First cut up the old CDs into 1/2-inch or 1-centimeter squares. Now glue them to the outside of some kind of ball or spherical object. Put a string through the spherical object and hang it. Now shine lights (best multicolored) onto your cool disco ball. Now your have a cool CD disco ball.

Another idea is to get some of the family pictures, laser copy them, you can fit several on a page and have them copied. Then cut them out, paint the background and decoupage the picture to the CD. you could do this for character decorations such as Barbie too, I read that someone ued the CDs as a wall border, using thumb tacks to hang them.

When you melt the CD in the oven or toaster oven, is there a bad smell? Also, do you do shiny side out or in?

JKATHERINE I was wondering the same thing!? Anyone out there have an answer?

Also, I made Pointsetta flowers with some cd's this Christmas, Just hot glued the petals on and put a tuffted yellow cotton ball in the center and hung a hanger on the back.

You could also do this with flowers for springs, like a daisy. They are quite pretty in a room.

There is a smell. Would recommend doing it outside or well vented area. I have done them both ways, shiny side out and shiny side in. Shiny out is prettier I think. Cause You can cover the logos or whatever on the inside. I wonder how decoupage would do on this.
