Pillows and Pillow cases... help!!!

I want to start making pillows and pillow cases so that I can decorate them! Much cheaper than buying them from the store, I'm sure!

Please help - how doe you guys make them? Any specific measurements or do you just use your existing bedding as an example?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jennifer

Electric Chameleon
I made one for my daughters room with the left over material I used for her curtain. I just used an existing standard size pillow case and added the extra 1/2" for seam allowance. The top of mine is a little heavy because I doubled the hem. I folded it for her purple body and then added the folded pattern, I doubled it so that when it was "tucked" you could see the design/pattern from both sides! I don't think I would reccoment that unless it was for show only like a sham.

Good luck I hope I helped a little.

Lots of times decorative pillows are made in an 'envelope' style. Measure your pillow form and add 1/2" on all sides for seams. Cut one piece this size for the front. For the back cut TWO pieces that are the length of one short side and make it 1/2 the length of the longer side PLUS about 3". Hem one of the shorter sides of both pieces. Then place right sides together of all 3 pieces, overlapping the hemmed sides. Leave the hemmed sides OPEN. Turn the case right side out and using the opening you can put your pillow inside and later remove it for washing. Hope you can understand this. :-)

Wow thanks everyone!

I especially liked the link for no-sew blue jean pillows - that would be perfect for my thrift store finds that aren't in the greatest shape

Thanks all!
