new to scrapbooking

I'm going to start on my first scrapbook. I am wondering what y'all suggest is a good 'has-it-all' kit I can get. There are so many things to look through! It's overwhelming. I want it to look really nice, but I don't want to get everything there is for my first one.

Treat everyone with politeness, even those who
are rude to you - not because they are nice, but
because you are. ~ ?

I've been scrapbooking for over 15 years...when Creative Memories was the only game in town.

You can get some "kits" at Wal-Mart which include lots of stuff.

The best kits I have ever seen are on QVC...so you may want to visit that web site.

However...if you want to start out, I would suggest getting a few colored pens, some good adhesive (not glue sticks), lots of different colored paper, a couple of creative scissors...maybe a corner rounder and get started.

Sign up for a beginner class.

There are lots of bells and whistles out there to decorate pages. But I have found that learning how to crop pictures effectively and mount them on colored paper are two of the more basic skills which will take you really far.

And don't forget to journal. It is your comments which make the scrapbook special. I know that creative memory "purists" really encourage writing things out in your own handwriting...but I don't like how my own handwriting looks. So...when I am "telling a little story"...I type it up using a creative font in a coordinating color ink (color printer) and then print it out on acid-free paper. I then crop and mount the text and put it in my book.

I have been scrapbooking for 6 years, and my mom has for over 12, yes she did the CM stuff too ( YUCK!) I love their tools but not their prodcts, everything is soooo back in the '80s! I love to use fibers, eyelets, punchies, diecuts, metals etc and you do need a good adhesive for everything to stay in place for years and years, dont use the glue sticks! Take a trip t your LSS or even hoby lobby and michales or walmrt, you will find great adhesives there too!

I would eithe rtake a class or o to a crop and see all the work other people do and get inspired! Just doa search on google for scrapbooking websites andyou will find the latest things, instructions, tips and everything!
