Birdfeeder
Materials Needed:
Pinecone
Peanut butter
Birdseed
2 Pie tins
Heavy string
Hint: choose a pinecone that does not have sharp edges!
Directions:
1. Tie heavy string around the tip of the pinecone, for hanging when the project is complete.
2. Spread peanut butter in the bottom of one pie tin, and fill the second pie tin with bird seed.
3. Roll the pinecone in the peanut butter until covered. Be careful not to prick fingers, and keep the string out of the peanut butter.
4. Roll the peanut butter covered pinecone in the birdseed until covered. Now hang outside!
Finger Paint
Materials Needed:
Flour
Salt
Water
Bowls
Spoon
Food coloring
Newspaper
Paper
Directions:
1. In a bowl mix together equal amounts of flour and salt.
2. Slowly add water to mixture, enough to bring to consistency of gravy, stir.
2. Add desired food coloring and blend well. Try to make at least red, blue and yellow.
3. Protect table top with newspaper. Place paper on newspaper and create! (also a very good idea to have the child wear an old shirt to protect their clothing!)
Hanging Sponge Plant
Materials Needed:
Oval or round shaped sponge
Seeds (clover, mustard or cress)
Bucket of water
Heavy string or twine.
Directions:
1. Tie string securely around sponge, leaving enough string to hang by window.
2. Soak sponge in water, squeeze out excess water.
3. Sprinkle seeds over wet sponge until it is covered.
4. Hang near sunny window.
5. Keep moist by misting with water (don't over soak!)
6. Seeds will sprout and cover sponge with greenery!
Fingerprint Art
This is a good way for young children to become familiar with the unique patterns of fingerprints.
Materials Needed:
Paper
Ink pads
Felt tip pens
Directions:
1. Press finger tips on ink pad, then press in a rolling motion on paper to place fingerprint on paper.
2. Clean fingers of ink.
3. Use felt tip pen to create a picture from the fingerprint.
