Holiday Saw

Supplies
Surfaces

Brushes by Loew-Cornell or Eagle - #12 Flat; 3/4" Flat; 10/0 Liner; 3/8" Rake

Supplies - Brush basin, palette, paper towels, synthetic sponge, old scruffy brush, tracing & transfer paper, pencil, stylus, transparent tape, scissors, fine-grit sandpaper, cloth diaper, vinegar

Saw with black handle

Instructions

PREPARATION
1. Remove handle after outlining the handle position lightly with a pencil to show how much of the blade the handle covers.

2. Wipe blade with cloth dipped in 1:1 mix of vinegar and water. If saw blade is rusted or dirty, sand side to side across the blade horizontally before wiping clean.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Transfer pattern for horizon line; paint portion of blade above that line Bright White with 3/4" brush. Streak with light grey mix (1:1 mix of Ivory and Colonial Grey).

2. Dip synthetic sponge into a dark grey mix (4:1 mix of Colonial Grey and Coal Black) to create the tree line.

3. Use #12 brush and Bright White blended with dark grey mix to add “shadowed” snow from horizon line to bottom of blade, working light to dark from the horizon line.

4. Transfer remaining pattern details to saw blade.

5. Use liner brush to paint tree trunks and branches with Coal Black.

6. Outline pond area with Coal Black. Beginning from center, use Bright White with a side to side brush stroke from center to create ice.

7. Create pine trees with liner brush, using zig-zag motion. Starting at the top, feather the tree out with Coal Black, moving downward.

8. When pine trees are dry, add snow sparingly with liner and Bright White.

9. Paint buildings with the dark grey mix. Streak with white and black, using rake brush. Use a darker mix to shade sides of buildings. Add details with liner using black and white.

10. Paint foreground trees with Coal Black and dark grey mix, using rake brush to show highlights.
11. Use scruffy brush to dab Snow-Tex around buildings, pond, on roofs and tree limbs. Let dry.

12. Use a base of Bright White with light grey mix over the Snow-Tex.

13. Paint skater’s scarf and mittens Real Red, sweater Deep Blue, face Peach Blush and pants, skates and hat Coal Black.

14. Use liner, Espresso Bean and Coal Black to shape bushes.

15. Add snow throughout the painting by dabbing Bright White with a clean synthetic sponge.

16. Brush Starshine over trees, snow and pond.
