Supplies - graphite & tracing paper, pencil, paper towels, water container, palette or plastic plate, palette knife, scissors, glue

1 ea 8"x10" frame

8"x10" colored or white paper

Instructions

Preparation
1. Make two tracings of patterns; first one is only the outline (for asecoating); second one is full tracing.

2. Wash glass with vinegar and water, or rubbing alcohol. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with soft cloth.

Painting Instructions
1. Place outline pattern under glass - tape in place if necessary.

2. TIP: when applying basecoat, follow pattern just inside of outline. Do Not thin paint with water and always use a dry brush.

3. Use #10 flat to basecoat with Gloss White. Let dry. Apply second coat over banner area and Santa figure. Let dry.

4. Transfer detailed pattern.

5. BANNER: Load side edge of #10 flat with True Blue and sweep across palette to work paint into brush. Apply paint to border edges and along fold lines. Use #6 round to paint lettering Christmas Red. When dry, use 18/0 liner to outline banner in Gloss Black. Use #2 round to apply Red Glitter on lettering.

6. Santa:
a. Use #6 shader to fill in face with Peach. With #2 flat and True Blue, shade under moustache, hat hairline, and bottom edge of beard.
b. With #0 liner, add shading of True Blue on left side of each leg. use #2 flat to apply line of True Blue shading next to fabric folds on coat, on coat front where it overlaps shirt, and under beard where it overlaps shirt.
c. Use #6 flat to apply second coat of White to beard - it will soften shading color. Use #0 liner to add tiny Gloss White eyebrows. Paint nose with Christmas Red - use #4 round brush. Work Christmas Red into #2 round brush, and with a circular motion apply paint to cheeks. with #4 round, paint inner mouth Black; with #0 liner add a Peach tongue. Use #0 liner to add tiny Gloss White highlights to nose and cheeks; then paint tiny Black eyes.
d. Use #6 flat to paint shirt stripes Christmas Red, and to fill in cap. Christmas Red leg stripes are painted with #0 liner. When dry, use 18/0 liner to add White highlight line down center of shirt and down each leg.
e. Mittens and shoes are Black; while wet, load side of #6 flat with White and sweep in highlights.
f. Use #2 round and Gold Glitter to paint tiny bell in hand. Christmas Red is applied to his coat with #10 flat. Apply Red Glitter over coat, hat, and red stripes. Use #2 round to paint tiny Black heart buttons on his coat, and a tiny White heart on tip of cap.
g. Outline and add all detail lines with 18/0 liner and Black.
h. Use a palette knife to apply Snow-Tex over the fur areas of hat and coat. - it adds dimension.

7. Elves: Paint faces the same as Santa's - but no beards. Caps and bow ties are Christmas Red with Red Glitter applied over base. Use 18/0 liner to paint hair and details Gloss Black.

8. Greenery: Load #10 flat with Christmas Green. With brush held upright over surface, begin filling in greenery branches - one at a time. Paint one stripe of color, reload brush and beginning at stem, pull out needles. Use flip strokes to avoid uniformity. When dry, repeat procedure with Hunter and the #0 liner. Use "flipping" strokes to overlap on banner, around elves, and over Santa's Shoes. use #6 round to randomly add Christmas Red berry dots over greenery. When dry, apply Red Glitter to each berry. Let dry. Use palette knife to apply Snow-Tex over greenery and between berries.

9. Final Touches:
a. Use palette knife to apply Snow-Tex along top and inside edge of frame to create image of snowy night.
b. When dry, apply Starlight Crystal Glitter over all Snow-Texed areas.
c. Adjust and glue photo onto background paper.
d. Place painted side of glass so right side faces outward. Place background paper behind glass and secure cardboard backing into place.
