Arrow Perfect Pocket Beach Towel

Our teenagers saw these towels in the surf shop priced $39.99. We said, “We can make these ourselves.” So can you!
Time to complete: less than one hour

Skill level: beginner

Materials:

Solid colored bath sheet or beach towel. (Costco has the best around priced at $9.99)
1/3 yd, Hawaiian print or tropical print fabric (you are going to be making a 12” cut, so be sure the cut is exact, or buy a little bit more)
Six inch Velcro strip (avoid sticky back; it gums up the sewing machine.
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Instructions:

From the printed fabric cut two pieces that measure 10” X 12”, and two pieces that measure 5” x 12”. The large piece will be your pocket, the small will be the flap.
Sew both large pieces, right sides together, leaving three inches unstitched to turn right sides out. Do the same for the small pieces. Clip corners, turn and press.
Top stitch Ό” from the edge all the way around the pocket piece. This will also close the opening where you turned the fabric. Repeat for the flap piece.
Top stitch another row Ύ” from the edge all the way around the pocket piece, then also on the flap piece.
Center the Velcro on both pieces and stitch. Remember the velcro should go on the inside of the top flap and on the outside of the pocket piece, making sure not to stitch the pocket closed.
Now place and pin the pocket piece to the towel, making sure that it is straight. (I chose the upper right hand corner, about four inches in from the side. My daughter was quick to point out, once I finished, that the sample at the surf shop, had the pocket toward the center bottom - in the area between one’s feet. You choose where it will work best for you). Remember that the flap will be stitched next above the pocket, Allow for at least four inches of clearance from the top of the towel to the top of the flap.
Center the top flap over the pocket, checking to see that the Velcro lines up. Pin and stitch.
There you have it, a great big towel, with an enclosed pocket to hold sunglasses, sunscreen or even a paperback book! Enjoy!
