Arrow Casserole Carrier

Nancy Zieman
This casserole carrier includes fabric specifically designed to reflect heat and keep your casserole hot.

Supplies needed:

2/3 yd. (60 cm) 45" (115 cm) wide outer fabric

2/3 yd. (60 cm) 42" (115 cm) wide "Iron Quick" Teflon-Coated Quilted Fabric (inner fabric)

Two 12" (30.5 cm) long 3/8" (1 cm) diameter dowels

Cut rectangles as follows:

One 41" x 11" (104 cm x 28 cm) piece each of outer fabric and inner fabric.

One 27" x 13" (68.5 cm x 33 cm) piece each of outer fabric and inner fabric.

Meet 41" x 11" (104 cm x 28 cm) rectangles of inner and outer fabrics, right sides together. Stitch with a 1/4" (6 mm) seam, leaving a 5" (12.5 cm) opening for turning. Turn right side out; close opening.

Mark stitching lines for dowel inserts on wrong side of each 13" (33 cm) edge of 27" x 13" (68.5 cm x 33 cm) inner fabric.

Measure 4-1/2" (11.5 cm) from each side; mark. Measure 2-1/2" (6.3 cm) down from each marked point; mark. Connect points to identify stitching lines. Stack inner fabric and outer fabric as for large rectangle. Inner side fabric up, stitch together with a 1/4" (6 mm) seam, following marked stitching lines at ends and leaving a 5" (12.5 cm) opening for turning on one 27" (68.5 cm) side. Restitch to reinforce corners of dowel inserts.

Trim excess fabric from dowel insert area, leaving 1/4" (6 mm) seam allowance. At inner corners, clip diagonally to stitching line. Turn right side out; close opening.

Create dowel pockets by folding 1" (2.5 cm) of dowel insert toward inner fabric. Stitch in place along edge. Position larger rectangle perpendicular to smaller rectangle, inner sides up, and center on smaller rectangle. Stitch outer edges of larger rectangle to smaller rectangle; restitch.

Insert dowels through dowel pockets.

Talking Casserole Carrier

Jalex, thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for a pattern for this. I bought one of these at a garage sale about a "million" years ago and use it all the time. I've had people wanting me to make them one but I didn't have the pattern. Thanks again.
