Smile Light Bulb Angel Ornament

This angel is another fun and simple Christmas decoration. Hang her on your tree or anywhere you like. This is a great project for school age children as well. However caution should be used when using hot glue and handling glass.

Supplies:
• one old light bulb
• 4X12 inch piece of pre-gathered lace with ribbon holes (see picture below)
• Clear acrylic gloss spray
• white or iridescent glitter
• white acrylic paint or spray paint
• 1/8 inch gold wire edge ribbon
• small amount of mini curly hair
• 1 - 1 inch wood ball with a hole in it
• small amount of flesh tone paint
• box top
• 3 inch wide by 3/4 yd. iridescent wire edge ribbon
• powder blush
• black fine tip permanent Sharpie marker
• hot glue and gun and small amount Tacky Glue
• small paint brush
• scissors

Directions

Let's prepare first. Create a light bulb stand by making a hole in a box top just big enough to place the threaded end of the light bulb in it. Spray paint your bulb lightly 2 times letting dry in between or if in school brush paint it neatly. Once dry, paint the threaded end. Let dry.
If your wood ball's hole doesn't go all the way through you will need to make it so by drilling it with a small bit. Paint with flesh tone paint and let dry. With your pinky finger and powder blush - dot the face for cheeks and mouth. Draw on eyes and an oval around the mouth. Spray a thin coat of clear gloss to protect it.

Weave a 13 inch piece of 1/8 inch gold wire edge ribbon through the holes in the lace and gather it in.

Make your wings. With the 3 inch wire edge ribbon in hand, create a 2 loop bow, making the first 2 loops bigger than the second. Tie the center tightly with some gold wire edge ribbon leaving about 4 inch tails.

Back to the head. Fold in half a 10 inch piece of 1/8 inch wire edge ribbon make a knot at 3 1/2 - 4 inches from the fold. Add a dab of tacky glue to the knot and poke the loop end through the hole in the head with a paper clip or something similar until the knot is to the top of the hole. Do Not pull the knot outside of the head. On the under side spread the two pieces of ribbon and squeeze a dab of tacky glue in the hole, just enough to fill it. Set aside to dry.

Assembly:

Tie the angels dress onto the bulb at the top 1/3 of the threading. Trim tails. Dab hot glue at the knot. This is the back. While holding ruffles down at the top and head in hand with the face towards the front of the dress, spread the 2 ribbon ends. If this is a class project work in pairs here (it will be easier for them as kids can be all thumbs.) Add some got glue to the bottom center of the head, press and hold down on the top of the light bulb center. Hold until secure. Now, with the ribbon ends to the sides, glue them down snug and trim off whatever hangs over. Stand the ruffles back up.
Tie the wings on tightly around the woven dress area. You can make a bow or trim in off as I did at the front. Place some hot glue between the center of the wings and back of dress and hold tight till dry. This is just extra reinforcement. Now trim the wing tails to the length of the dress using the V cut.

Glue on some locks of curly hair to the head. Make a ring with the 1/8 inch gold wire edge ribbon and place over the hanger and down to the hair. Put a tiny dab of hot glue to attach it to the back - top of hair.

Last step! Spread tacky glue on the angels chest between the ruffles and head and dust it well with glitter. Spray the dress with the clear gloss and quickly sprinkle some glitter on it. Give it a minute to dry and tap excess off. You now have a Light Bulb Angel Ornament
