Arrow Mom’s Mitten Dryer

Mom’s Mitten Dryer

By: Alexandra Bleicher

Make this cute wintertime decoration for hall or entry. It isn’t just sweet but you can actually use it. Minimal supplies needed and fast and easy to make. Cost is only about $3.00.

Finished size: 8” wide

Skill level: beginner

Crafting time: one hour excluding drying time

Materials

1 “ x 8” x 4” wood slat
Fabric scraps: 1” x 10” burgundy and white plaid, two; 1” x 12” beige print, two
Forster’s® Woodies™: large oval: two, small oval: two, Small teardrop: two
Wood cloths pegs, four
Craft wire, 16” length
Black fine line permanent marker
Acrylic paints: burgundy, beige, dark green
Supplies: paintbrush, kitchen sponge, paper plate for palette, drill and drill bit, glue.

Instructions

Have an adult drill two one holes into each upper corner for hanging wire.
Paint as follows: slat dark green, and wooden pieces burgundy. Let dry.
With kitchen sponge dab a little beige paint onto slat. Let dry.
Glue wood pieces to form two mittens (use picture as guide); small oval across bottom of large oval for wrist cuffs and small teardrop to side of oval for thumb. With black marker add cuff details and stitch lines around edges. Glue one mitten to each side of slat.
Using black marker write “MOM’S MITTEN DRYER” in 1 ¼” tall letters on center of slat.
Tie each fabric scrap into a bow, glue on beige one to center front of each plaid one. Glue bows to tope left and right corner just below drilled holes.
Insert one end of wire into right slat hole. Twist short end back to secure. Wrap wire around marker to curl. Insert other end into left slat hole and twist short end back to secure.
Glue cloths pegs across bottom of slat. With black marker add stitch lines to front of pegs.

Cute Idea

I think these would be great at craft baazars. Some variations would to find some wintery scenes and decoupage (my favorite medium) onto the wood. The kids plan to make one for "Grandma's Gloves."
