Arrow It's not too late yet....Halloween crafts

Halloween Candy Plate

Finished size: 7” diameter

Skill level: beginner

Crafting time: under 1 hour excluding drying time

This little plate is perfect for holding little treats on a side table. It is simple to paint with Delta ® Perm Enamel ™ paints.

Materials
Delta CeramDecor™ Perm Enamel™ Air Dry Paints: Ultra White, Orange, Ultra Black and True Green
Perm Enamel™ Clear Gloss Glaze
Perm Enamel™ Surface Conditioner
7” diameter plate or any size plate with a ¾” raised rim
Paintbrush
Cotton swab
Toothpick
Instructions
Use picture as guide throughout. With a clean dry brush apply surface conditioner to plate rim. Let dry. Do not rinse or wipe off.
Paint spiders, ghosts and pumpkins in an alternating pattern all around rim. Using cotton swab paint centers of spider with Ultra Black, ghost bodies with Ultra White and pumpkins with Orange. Using toothpick paint spider legs, dot ghosts’ eyes and add pumpkins faces with Ultra Black and paint pumpkins stems with True Green. Let dry.
Using dry paintbrush apply clear gloss glaze. Let dry one hour and repeat.
Note: Safe for microwave and dishwasher use. See paint label for any other manufacturers information.

Film Canister Lid Spider Pin

Finished size: 1 ¾”

Crafting time: under 1 hour

Turn a film canister lid into a cool spider pin to wear on your coat this Halloween. You can also turn her into a magnet or place her in some decorative spider webs around your front door.

Materials

Film canister lid
Black spray paint
Black chenille stem
½” black pompom
1/8” wiggle eyes, two
½” black or dark gray shank button
Pin back
Scissors
Tacky glue
Cardboard box
Instructions

Place lid inside cardboard box to protect work surface and spray paint black. Let dry and spray paint from other side. Let dry.
Place lid on work surface so that side with raised edges is facing up. Glue shank button to center of lid with shank inside shallow middle. Let dry.
Glue pompom to front of lid for head. Glue wiggle eyes to pompom. Let dry.
Cut chenille stem into eight even length pieces. Glue four lengths to each side of lid for spider legs. Slightly curve legs towards back of spider.
Glue pin back to back of spider. (If you have problems with pin staying on try gluing it on with a hot glue gun).

Frankenstein Party Favor

Crafting time: less than 1 hour, excluding drying time

Make this cute party favor from a 35 mm film canister, a candle cup and felt. He is easy and inexpensive. Fill him with candy corn or other goodies for a sweet treat.

Materials

· 35mm film canister
· Felt scraps: black and purple
· ¼” wide green satin ribbon, 7” length
· Straight pins with colored balls on ends, two
· Wooden pieces: - 1 5/8” candle cup (head)
- 5/8” wooden balls, two (hands)
Aleene’s ™ Premium Coat Acrylic paint: - True Orange
- Light Poppy,
- Deep Mauve
· Black fine line permanent marker
· 1” black pompom
· Paintbrush
· Scissors
· Tacky glue and cloth pegs or glue gun and glue sticks
· Needle and black thread
· ½” black button

Get started
1. Paint candle cup and beads Light Poppy. Let dry. Turn candle cup upside down to make head. With black marker draw mouth, eyes, eyebrows and scars on face. Dry Brush cheeks Deep Mauve. Push one straight pin into each side of head for screw (have an adult help you with this). Glue pompom to top of head.
2. Cut a 1” x 3” strip and a 1 ½” heart from black felt and a 1” x 3”, 1” squares and a circle the size of the film canister lid from purple felt. Glue black felt strip around bottom of canister for pants and purple strip around top of canister (if using tacky glue hold in place with cloths pegs until dry). Glue heart with point towards back to bottom of canister for feet. Fold each square into a tube and glue long seam; let cool or dry. Glue one bead into one end of each tube and glue one tube to each site of canister for arms. Glue purple felt circle to top of lid.
3. To attach head, (have an adult help you with this) poke two holes, close together, through center top of lid with needle. Thread needle with black thread. Insert needle trough one hole of button, then through hole on candle cup/head; pull though one hole in lid. Pull through second hole in lid back though bead and other side of button. Remove needle, pull thread taught and tie together in an overhand knot against button.
4. Tie green ribbon into a bow and glue to neckline (top of lid). Fill with treat of choice.

Frankenstein

Crafting time: less than 1 hour, excluding drying time
This little monster and his bats would like to be your friend and greet your guests this Halloween. He’s made from a wooden spatula and fabric scraps. You can hang him on your door or wall or even in a window. Cost is under $5.00.

Materials
· 10” wooden spatula
· Wooden pieces: jumbo craft sticks, two; craft spoons, two; 2” piece of 3/8” dowel, two; 1½”x 3/16” thick bats, two
· Clear handle push pins, two
· Square black button, two
· Black ¼” ribbon, 22” length
· Fabric Scraps: black 10” x 6” (pants); purple 4” square and two 2” x 8” strips (top)
· *Acrylic Paints: Deep Khaki, Deep Mauve, Deep purple, Black and White.
· 19 gauge black craft wire, 24” length

*Aleene’s ™ Premium Coat Acrylics by Duncan ® Enterprises were used for this project.
Supplies: Paintbrush, paper plate, paper towel, wire clippers, pencil, scissors, pinking shears, ruler, drill and drill bit to accommodate 19 gauge wire, tacky glue or glue gun and glue sticks.

Instructions
1. Drill a hole into center bottom of each bat and into top left and right corners of spatula. Cut 1 ¾” from wide end of each craft spoon, discard narrow ends.
2. Paint pieces as follows: Bats Deep purple; spatula and craft sticks Deep Khaki, dowel pieces and craft spoons Black. Let dry. Dry brush Bats with Black, and craft spoons with Deep Purple.
3. Using picture as a guide paint hair with Black and dry brush cheeks with Deep Mauve. Paint eyes with White. Draw scars, mouth, chin, nose, eyebrows and outlines and dot eyes with black marker. Poke a tack into each side of head, at about same level as mouth.
4. Wrap 4” square piece of purple fabric around spatula below face, secure with glue. Fold one short edge of purple strips over to create a finished edge for sleeves. Wrap one strip around each jumbo craft stick, leaving 1” of one end exposed for hands. Glue covered end to back of spatula so that arms extend down and out on each side. Cut a 4” length from black ribbon, tie into a bow and glue to center front of neckline. Glue buttons down center front of top.
5. Cut pant pattern twice from black fabric. Glue side seams, with wrong sides together leaving top edge and 1” in crotch open, let cool. Pull on pants so that handle of spatula passes through hole in center of pants. Cut 3” from black ribbon and tie around waist to secure pants, knotting at front. Stuff pants legs with fiberfill stuffing. Cut remaining black ribbon into two equal lengths. Glue one dowel piece into each leg opening and tie with black ribbon to secure. Glue a craft spoon to bottom of each dowel with cut side to back.
6. Cut a 7” length from wire, twist around pencil to curl and thread each end into one hole at top of spatula for hanger.
7. Cut remaining wire into two equal pieces. Poke one end of each wire through hole in one bat, twist short end of wire around long end to secure. Curl wire around pencil and secure free end to one hole in spatula, repeat with second bat.
