Tips, Questions, and Answers from BJ and Our Readers:

Tip #1:
If you are looking to create heirloom quality linens, Royal Classic by Charles Craft is a great fabric for bread covers, place mats, and napkins. It's wrinkle and stain resistant as well as machine washable. Charles Craft has these items already prefinished. Ideally, it would be better to make a pillow sham that you can remove the pillow form and wash the sham more frequently.

Tip #2:
When you have finished stitching a project, launder and iron the project (on backside) while still damp. When the stitched piece is completely dried -- must be completely dry (let set for 2 days), then you can either lightly roll the stitched piece and place in a drawer OR lay flat (my preference) with a white/cream hand towel between pieces.

Q:
How do I organize my floss?

A:
There are so many different ways and that is more of what the stitcher prefers. Do you want to wind your skeins of floss onto cards? Do you want to be able to just put the whole skein in a binder type organizer? Some buy special cabinets (such as DMC's) to place their floss in numerical order.

Q:
I accidentally scorched my project when I was ironing it. How can I get this out? Would it be easier to tea dye?

A:
Tea dying sounds more like it would work on this. Scorching is extremely hard to get out. You might try soaking the area in lemon juice --not allowing it to be against a stitched area on the front side - and placing in a sunny area. Then rinse thoroughly.

I hope you've enjoyed the Premier Issue of Every Stitcher Counts! Please send YOUR tips, questions, comments, ideas and answers to stitcher@myfree.com.

Happy stitching!
