How to Make a Coffee Can Bird Feeder.

Make this easy feeder to provide seed for your backyard birds.
Difficulty Level: average Time Required: 1 hour

Here's How: Wash an empty coffee can that has a plastic lid. You can use any size can. Cut 3 holes in the side of the coffee can near the bottom of the can. You can use a can opener to help you do this step. The holes should be evenly spaced around the sides at the bottom. Drill a hole through the can, a plastic plant saucer, and a piece of 1" thick wood. (Be sure to use protective eye goggles. Place the can on the saucer that is on the wood. Attach the can and saucer to the wood using a nut, washer and bolt. Mount the board onto a birdfeeder pole or fence. Fill with sunflower seed or your birds' favorite type. Put the plastic lid on the can. An alternate method is not to use the wood. Punch 2 holes near the top of the can. Attach a length of wire in the holes to serve as a hanger. Drill a hole through the can and a plastic plant saucer. Attach the saucer to the can with a nut, washer and bolt.

Tips: It may take several days for your birds to discover your new feeder. ~~ Mary D. Keffalas, Pennsylvania

Looking for bird feeder out of cans, INSTEAD use a washed out plastic Gallon milk container. Place two holes on either side, one larger than the other, and hang by the handle on your tree limb or pole. Place silver paper on the handle to discourage squirrels. Place your seeds inside the milk container through the larger hole. Make sure your holes are large enough for the birds to get in and out easily. If you're not sure make them larger. Your kids can decorate or paint the areas that are not cut.
