A great way to display pride in America is with this patriotic bunting.
Materials:
1-1/2 yds. red striped fabric
1 yd. blue fabric
1-1/2 yds. heavy white lining
4 yds. 1/8" cord
Eighteen 1/2" plastic rings
Sewing machine
Iron
Measure 50" of the red striped fabric
and cut a piece 50" x 45". Repeat for the lining.
Take the contrasting blue fabric and, with right sides together, baste the long ends; gather tightly.
Turn right side out, baste the short ends and gather. Mark the center of the red striped fabric and pin the blue gathers, matching at the center
and sew to secure.
Lay the lining fabric over, right sides together. Pin, then stitch the outer edges, leaving an opening.
Turn the fabric right side out. Slip-stitch the opening and press.
To add plastic rings, mark the back 6" from the outer edge, spaced 5" apart. Sew the rings securely to the bunting.
Cut 2 pieces of cord 40" long. Thread 1 piece through the rings and secure the end
Pull up, adjust gathers and secure at the top. Repeat on the other side.
Tie to your railing.
You may want to add embellishments -- such as an American flag and red ribbon ties.
