What a lovely idea for Mother's Day... a fabric covered album, treasure box and address book, trimmed with lace and ribbons! Susan B. used VIP's "Savannah" collection to give these crafts a touch of Spring. ALBUM Materials The amount of fabric you need depends on the size of the album and address book you wish to cover. For this project, Susan used a 111/2" x 101/2" photo album and approximately 1/2 yd. of "Savannah", Style 1463-S. A 3-ring binder can also be used. Hot glue gun Eyelet Lace trim ( We used approximately 2 yards) Ribbon ties- 11/4 yards. of 1" satin ribbon. Batting- 1/3 yards. of 1" thick batting. Cardboard- (We used illustration board for the inside cover and frame on top.) Scissors Ruler Instructions 1. Remove pages from album. Open album and place on wrong side of fabric. Cut fabric 11/2" from album edge for a fold-over allowance. 2. Place album on top of batting and trace. Cut batting according to tracing. 3. Cut 2 strips of fabric 21/2" wide and the same length as the backbone of the album. Apply a small amount of glue near the metal frame. Slide the fabric in as far under as possible. Apply additional glue under the fabric, and smooth it down with fingertips. This should be done on both sides. 4. Center batting on wrong side of fabric, and place open album on top of batting. Place beads of glue on all four corners of album. Tightly stretch and adhere fabric to corners of album. 5. Place beads of glue across bottom edge album, and pull fabric up over the entire bottom. Trim fabric at metal backbone. Evenly pull the fabric over the edges to avoid wrinkles. Repeat the process on the opposite side. 6. Repeat the same process on the remaining two sides. Be sure to check that the fabric is folded at the corners in the same manner for a uniform appearance. 7. Apply a thin layer of glue around the inner edge of album. Start at the bottom back-bone and place lace on glue. Smooth with finger tips as you go along. 8. Cut two pieces of ribbon 18" long, and glue to center of both side edges on inside. 9. Measure and cut 2 pieces of cardboard for the inside cover. It should be large enough to cover the raw edge of the lace, but should not extend over the album edge. 10. Cut two pieces of fabric 1" larger than the cardboard. Place fabric wrong side up and center board on top. Apply glue on corners and fold over. Bead glue along edges of the board and fold fabric over. Trim if necessary. 11. Bead glue along wrong side of board, and place it on cover inside. Repeat the process. 12. Trace an oval shape onto illustration board and cut out, including center, leaving a 3/4" wide oval. 13. Place oval on fabric and cut fabric 3/4" larger than oval. Do not cut out the center of the fabric oval. 14. Cut a piece of batting the same size as the oval. Cut the center of the batting oval out. 15. Center and place batting on top of wrong side of fabric. Place cardboard on top of batting. 16. Bead glue along edge of board and secure fabric to it. 17. Carefully cut the center of the fabric, approximately 1" from the edge of the board. Make clips in the fabric all around, but make sure clippings are 1/8" away from the edge of the board. 18. Bead glue around the opening, and carefully attach the fabric. 19. Apply glue along the outer edge of the oval and place lace on top of the glue. When the glue has set, place additional glue along the outer edge and mount to album cover. The top can be left unglued to insert a photo. 20. Make a bow from the remaining ribbon and glue to frame. The tails can be glued at different intervals, giving it a flowing appearance. TREASURE BOX Materials 1/2 yd. "Savannah", Style 1466-S 1/4 yd. "Savannah", Style 1465-S Cardboard box (We used a oval box, but any shape you choose will work...heart, circle, square or rectangular. Most craft stores carry a variety of sizes also. The size and shape of the box will determine the amount of supplies needed.) Batting- 1" thick Ruffled eyelet lace trim (We used a trim that allowed us to weave satin ribbon through the center of the double edged eyelet. This added more detail to the box, and allowed us to pick up a color in the fabric.) Peel 'n Stick Scissors Ruler Instructions Measure the box without the lid, and cut fabric 2" wider than box. This will leave you a fold-over allowance. Apply Peel 'n Stick to wrong side of fabric following manufacturer's directions. Center fabric on box, and carefully attach fabric to box, smoothing it over with your finger tips. Clip extending fabric inwards toward box edge, but be carefully not to clip in all the way. Carefully overlap fabric into box and under box. Place cover on top of 2-plies of batting and trace. Cut batting out. Measure and cut a piece of Peel 'n Stick the same size as lid lip. Apply to lid. Place batting then lid cover on top of wrong side of fabric. Cut fabric 2" wider than cover on all sides. Carefully working from opposite sides bring fabric over the edges of the cover. Be sure to check that the fabric is smooth across the top at all times. Trim any remaining fabric that may extend over the edge. Apply glue to the cover's lip and trim with lace. Note: Potpourri can be put between the 2 plies of batting. This will give it a special scent. ADDRESS BOOK Materials 1/4 yd. of "Savannah", Style 1465-S Small address book (We used a 7"x41/2" book. A small photo album could also be used so that Mom and Grandma can carry around pictures of her special someones.) Peel 'n Stick Scissors Ruler Measure and cut fabric with book cover open, PLUS 3/4" on all sides. Apply Peel 'n Stick to fabric according to manufacturer's instructions. Center book over fabric and carefully bring in edges. Make sure fabric is smooth across front and back outside cover. Measure and cut 2 pieces of fabric slightly smaller than inside covers. Repeat step 2. Center fabric over inside cover and smooth over with finger tips. Note: We cut out a flower from "Savannah" 1464-S and mounted it on the cover. Any little novelty item can be used. If you are making a small photo album, glue 2 pieces of ribbon to inside covers before the fabric is attached to inside covers. This will allow you to make ties for the album. While all possible care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of this pattern, we are not responswible for printing arrors or the way in which individual work may vary.
