Well i know these arent the best ideas in the world but these are some things i can think of...
Gifts.. You can put some peanuts in them..and decorate the bottles with ribbon or decupage(sp?) Also could put jelly beans in them and decorate them.. Bath salts buble bath.. or you could put flowers or herbs in oil in them! marbles etc... decorative bottles with small gifts in them are always a nice gift! (i wish i could get something like these as gifts..but unfortunatley i am the only creative person in my family...and my friends arent creative either LOL..all the crafts are left to me!!..not that i mind doing them )

you can also make a doll out of it
you need to go to the craft store and get the doll body, the one from like the tummy up and then glue her on and make a dress, make sure you fill the bottle with sand first so it is heavy. just make sure that the doll body fits the size of the bottle |

I'm for the flavored cooking oils (use virgin olive oil only) and vinegars.
These are really easy to do. Just buy fresh herbs - rosemary, thyme, dill, taragon, etc. and place in the bottles. Don't mix the herbs...use different herbs in different bottles. Add several peeled fresh garlic cloves and peppercorns. Then pour olive oil or vinegar filling the bottle. Dried chiles and peppercorns also make a great spicey chile oil. Recork and seal with paraffin wax. Tie with raffia! FYI...these should sit for at least 2 weeks in a cool dark place before giving them as a gift. I made these and sold them at a Christmas boutique a few years ago!

Another neat idea for wine bottles is to turn them into an oil lamp. Most craft stores have a wine bottle oil lamp kit that comes with everything but the bottle. They look really neat, and are great, especially for memento bottles. I'm using a bunch of mine for packaging homemade liqueurs and bath products for gift baskets. One of my favorite things to do that takes a little more time and effort but looks great is to go to the dollar store, buy a big box of crayons and a long candle. Light the long candle and use the flame to melt the crayon wax onto a bottle (in drips). You can either use different colors of wax to coordinate into a specific color scheme (blue bottles look great with silver wax - just use a regular white candle to drip layers and then use a silver crayon to do the very top layer) or just use every color in the box for a more realistic melted candle look. They make great candle holders, esp. if you have some of those short fat bottles with the straw around the bottom (I actually bought a few of those empty bottles at Target on clearance for about $2). Good luck!

Ooh I thought of something else you could do after I read what Bick's Mom posted - get the labels off the bottle and get some frosted glass spray, then adhere a cutout of some sort on the bottle (just make sure it's removable glue) and spray around it to make the rest of the bottle frosted looking. Then you could either use it as a vase, or make the cutout square to allow a personalized label to be placed on the bottle. You could probably even spray paint the bottle with different colors and then frost over it to get variations of color, or make/buy cutout stencils of snowmen and make the snowmen themselves frosted.
