I was going through some stuff and found one of these, you may have seen them before, but I thought it was cute and the kids thought it was neat. It's Magic Reindeer Food. You take a bag of birdseed and add some glitter, then I bagged it up in some clear cellophane bags and tied it with red ribbons and added this poem:
Make a wish and close your eyes tight, Then sprinkle on your lawn at night. As Santa's reindeer fly & roam, This food will guide them to your home. For your gift to the reindeer and Rudolph too, Your wish maybe real, your dreams may come true. I passed it out to the family on Christmas Eve for the kids to put on the lawn before bed.It would even be cute to do it up in red or green tulle(like you do for weddings) for the kids Christmas parties as a little treat. ![]() |

I did a similar thing for my daughter's kindegarden class.
However, we did use oatmeal. What happened was that when the dew hits the lawns (we are in S. California so snow isn't an issue), the oatmeal dissolves leaving only the glitter. I also saw a revised version that said we should only use the red and green sparkles you put on a cake. The parents told my daughter that the kid's were all amazed on Christmas morning when the "food" was gone, but the glitter remained.
