Hey! I was wondering, for those of you out there who have made your own play dough, what is your favorite recipe for it? I've heard that the ones with cream of tartar in them work best, but I also would prefer one that doesn't have to be cooked, so that my class (4 & 5 year olds) can make it with me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Peanut Butter Play Dough
2 cups of peanut butter 2 cups of powdered milk 3 tablespoons honey Mix together all above ingredients. Add more powdered milk, one tablespoon at a time if it is too sticky! Don't worry if the kids eat this one! Play Dough 2 cups water 1 cup salt 2 cups flour 1 tsp. oil 2 tsp. alum Food coloring Directions: Mix dry ingredients in a skillet on medium heat. Mix the wet ingredients together and pour it into the skillet. Stir the dough. When the dough starts to thicken, lower the heat. Continue stirring until the dough makes a ball. Knead dough. both copied from: http://www.we-love-recipes.com |

PLAYDOH
I make it the same as Flute21 but don't add Alum. I made it for years as a preschool teacher and now for my son. We also will be a part of a playgroup starting next week and I plan to whip some more up. What is good about homemade playdoh it that is not as stinky as the store brand. I hate that smell. You also can add cinnamon or vanilla extract or paint for different colors and smells. Get some cheap cookie cutters and the kids will have a blast.
Juliegirl...if you want to swap preschool projects and so on, post a reply to me here or make a seperate thread. Now I am going to be the playgroup lead teacher I could use someone else to bop ideas off of...I haven't taught preschool in a few years. Let me know, okay?

Besides your normal "Play Doh" recipes, you can make some fun stuff using just cornstarch and water (and a little food coloring if so desired)
Just take cornstarch, and mix with water to almost any consistency. Until it will run slowly, ooze almost, cleanly. My kids did this all the time, called it "Ooogly" and had a blast playing with it.

Thanks to all for the great ideas... I knew you would come through for me!
To Paperbackwriter1966, I am currently in college studying early childhood education, but I work with Pre-K and Kindergarten age kids at church on Sundays and Wednesdays. I don't know how many ideas I'll have but I'm always glad to share what I do know and hear from others what they're doing. Please share your wisdom! Maybe there are others out there in BBS World who work with kids, too, who will join in... I'll check back on this thread to see if you reply. Maybe we can get a good thread going for preschool ideas? Just let me know! Thanks again, everybody! I know my kids will love doing these things! ![]()
