I am following a pattern for a afghan and the instructions are telling me that I have to finish off something when I get to the end of the row. How do I do this???
here is the exact instructions:
"Row 50 - Work beginning block, slip st in ch-2 sp of first block,ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, work blocks across to last block, slip st in ch-3 sp of last block; finish off."
I have read the book over and over and there are no instructions in any of the patterns on how to finish off. HELP HELP HELP.
Thank you in advance!!

Are you finishing off to start another color? Are you going to start another row?

OK, I just got to the point where it says that I have to finish it off. What I have is that I am decreasing on one side. I had been doing kind of a shell pattern or block pattern, chain 3 and then 3 dc in one stitch. So, what I need to do next is to finish off that row, then start another row. Using the same color.
Does this explain anything???

Now this is only my opionion but cut the yarn about 3-4 inches do a slip knot and then weave in the additional yarn then start your next row with the yarn again. If this is not the case then dang I am stumped.

Is that ususally what it means to finish off? Just end your row and slip knot? Or does it sometimes mean to do a single crochet? I don't understand!!! Because that just seems wierd to me. Most of the rest of the instructions say I have to finish off when I reach the end of the row. Sometimes I have to change colors, but, sometimes not. This is very confusing!! Anyway, thank you for your help.

I do a lot of crotching also so when it says finish off, I would finish off with the slip knot and weave the ends in then start a whole new row.

I did try that and it did seem to work!! I have not been crocheting for very long, and this is my 1st attempt at following a pattern. The other things that I crocheted were either shown to me or just basic single crochet and chain one or something like that. So, thank you very much for all of your help. I can't wait to finish this afghan. It really is coming along nice!!

I'm not sure how much I really helped but I am very glad if I did.
You will find that a lot of it will be trial and error. I have ripped out and started over many many times. Well anyhow. Good luck.

You did help me!! I would really not have had a clue what to do if you had not said what you did. I might have eventually figured it out, but, it probably would have taken me a couple of tries and lots of ripping out!!
Thank you again for helping a fellow crocheter!!
