Brooches to Brag About
Who needs to show off diamonds when you've got heirloom jewels like these? When my kids each gave one to their great-grandmother to wear on her coat, she was thrilled. Now she has the excuse she needed to talk about her great-grandchildren.
MATERIALS
Bottle cap
Needle-nose pliers
Pin backing (available at craft stores)
Photo
White glue or clear glaze (available at craft stores)
To make your pin, use needle-nose pliers to bend out and flatten the rim of a bottle cap. Then your children can glue a pin backing to the cap. Let them decorate the inside edge of the cap--my kids colored it with nail polish and glued on glitter. Then they can trace a quarter around a photo of their choice and cut it out. The next step is to glue the picture in the center of the bottle cap and coat it with clear glaze or white glue that dries clear.

Bottle Cap Lady Bug Craft
What a cute lady bug crawling up the plant leaf. This project is not only fun but is also a good way for kids to recycle bottle caps that may have otherwise landed in the rubbish bin. Perhaps kids can create a set of these as table decorations for a spring fest, use them to decorate packages or cards or even create other types of bugs to compliment this bug.
For this project you will need:
- bottle cap
- acrylic paints in red, black and white
- paint brushes
- toothpick
Instructions:
1. Completely paint the bottle cap with black acrylic paint. Once dry and if necessary, paint it again and let it completely dry before continuing.
2. Now about 1/5th down from one side, paint 2 red halves, leaving a black line down the middle of the lady bug that gets wider at the bottom.
3. Dip the end of a paint brush in black paint and dot black spots on both wing sections once the red paint is dry.
4. Take a toothpick and dip it into white paint. Dot 2 eyes on the top black section to resemble eyes.

Bottle Cap Photo Magnets
Bottle Caps
Pictures
Glue
Pen
Circle Stencil
Magnets
HOW-TO:
1. Using a circle stencil (I have one with all different size circles and I always use it...good investment!) measure what size picture would work best in your bottle cap.
2. Size the pictures on your computer to fit your bottle cap.
3. Print the pictures
4. Using your stencil, place it on top of the picture and trace the circle. Cut out.
5. Glue your photo into the inside of your bottle cap.
6. On the back, using a strong adhesive like Krazy Glue, adhere the magnet to the bottle cap.
7. Voila! You are done.
Don't want to use photos? How about some leftover scrapbook paper!?! Enjoy this green-friendly project (we are RE-USING the bottle caps) and display photos of the little munchkin that sometimes just makes you crave that cold rootbeer and hope for a new beginning tomorrow!
Be inspired, get creative, and have fun!

Bottle cap pendant
by Jamie Dobbs on Mar 13th 2008 : A cool item I've seen around craft fairs lately is bottle cap jewelry. It's really simple to create. It can be time-consuming, though, especially if you're an instant-gratification crafter like me.
You'll need a few different materials. You can purchase unused bottle caps on the internet, or in your local craft store.[/i]
You'll also need:
A 1" circle hole punch
An image to punch out: I like using trading cards, magazines, comics, or just neatly designed paper
White craft glue
Resin or glaze
A jump ring
Pliers to attach the ring with
Either a small nail and hammer, a dremel, or a drill.
Instructions :
Turn your bottle cap upside down. In one of the crevices, drill a small hole (or create a hole using the hammer and small nail).
Attach the jump ring.
Using the 1" circle hole punch, punch out your desired image.
Glue the image to the inside of the bottle cap using white glue. Allow this to dry 24 hours.
Once your image is securely glued and dried, pour the resin or glaze over the top of the image, making sure to seal it completely. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours. If any air bubbles surface, be sure to pop them with a straight pin!
You can use this same technique to make earrings, barrettes, or even magnets. You can pick up earring and barrette parts, or self-adhesive magnets, at just about any craft store.
( For a somewhat similar project, see our previous post about glass marble magnets.

Ladybug Locket
Two metal soda pop bottle caps
Red and black acrylic paint
Paint brush
Scrap of red felt 2 and 1/2 inches by 3 inches.
Hot glue & hot glue gun
28 inches of vinyl lacing
Picture
White glue
Scissors
Directions:
Paint the tops of bottle caps red. When dry, use black paint to add dots & other ladybug markings to one of the bottle cap tops. Use hot glue to glue felt to the inside of bottle caps. Glue one bottle cap to each 2 and 1/2 inch end. Carefully trim extra felt away from caps, leaving a 1/2 inch strip of felt between the two caps. Fold felt strip in half, so the insides of bottle caps are facing each other. Place a dot of hot glue on the inside fold line then attach vinyl lacing at center of lacing length. When hot glue is dry, knot the lacing ends together. With white glue, glue pictures to the inside of bottle caps.
