I have worked as a cashier for around 3 years, give or take a month or two. I have had food throw at me, been cussed and yelled at and berated, been lied on and all throughout all of that drama, I always provided service with a smile. You know the old adage, the customer is always right? I always smiled and apologized for the inconvenience and tried to solve the problem, if I couldnt I called my manager and spent a moment catching the manager up with the issue before I moved on to the next customer. Nowadays, cashiers can't count, read coupons, or serve hot food it seems like except the rare few, and those are the ones I head to everytime. Just remember, if you get good service let the managers know, they want good feedback as well as bad
